My British Buddy: air force drama with great atmosphere
24 May 2019
A British war drama; A story about the Battle of Britain and how it affected the lives of combatants and civilians alike. It concentrates on an American pilot and his wife, a British officer and his family, and a young couple who plan to marry. It deals with a theme man's right to marry when is courting death. It also deals with different but similar cultures and how they ought to accommodate each other. Subtly written by Terry Rattigan, it portrays with verity the life of the airman in war, the problems, the hazards, the exaggerated casualness towards death, courage, humour, and comradeship. Every member of the cast from its stars (of which there are many) to its bit parts, perform superbly. It succeeds in pathos, of desperate news and tragic events all the way to the highs of joviality, music and humour among air officers at an English airfield.
