Incredible!!!

Warning: Spoilers
I watched Quadrophenia for the first time about a month ago, and I am amazed at how much this movie about Jimmy and the unraveling of his world has stayed with me and affected me. It far exceeded my expectations--I was never impressed by Tommy, and so I was pleasantly surprised. I liked the way the Who songs were integral but in the background, part of the soundtrack of life rather than in the unnatural style of a typical musical or Rock Opera.

I actually feel like I'm hearing certain songs by the Who in a different and deeper way, even thiugh I've known these songs most of my life, especially "5:15" and "Love Reign O'er Me". I can't unsee Jimmy on the train (disturbing and funny at the same time). Particularly affecting to me personally is the scene of Jimmy in the morning after spending the night alone on the beach in Brighton, looking out on a rough sea with his life ahead, infused with a sense of youthful passion and longing and raw emotion that is indescribable in words. I wish I had seen this movie 30 years ago when I was closer to his age. Better late than never-I know I will be seeing this beautiful and haunting film again.
