As always, histrionics in American hospital drama
19 June 2019
It's great, very engaging. Very well made and the acting isn't too bad. I love the review somewhere here that says "It's so bad, I'm hooked". It's another fabulously beautiful set of perfect people, and a fabulous set of alternative and risky (but safeguarded) morals mixed with an across-the-board sense of total inclusivity of anyone and everything. Every main character is cocksure of their own self psychoanalysis. There's a smattering of forced postmodernist vaudeville (safeguarded), a dramatic and musical climax every ten minutes, and a soft thoughtful breathy song at the end of each episode. Every "walking down the corridor" scene needs subtitles to translate the gabbled dialogue, not because of accents, simply because everyone's talking at 78RPM. Thoroughly enjoyable nonsense mixed with what could be a brilliant drama. The histrionics are compatible with today's audiences.
