HIT AND MISS

Warning: Spoilers
If you have watched these chick-based comedies you know that there is a running theme: Good looking girls in high school are mean and women hold grudges all their life. This movie follows in the same vain (sic). Kristen Bell plays Marnie who was a geek in high school. Because of it she has becomes successful, a female version of a "Boy Named Sue." The ugly duckling hs turned into a swan. She goes home for her brother's wedding, only to find out he is going to marry her arch nemesis from High School, JJ.

JJ pretends she doesn't know Marni which irks her even more. Marni's dog likes JJ and the family has accepted her to a point she once again feels she is in competition. JJ is now a nurse who only wants to help people. There seems to be a sudden role reversal, but the movie doesn't portray that very well until the end. JJ's parents are dead so her aunt played by Sigourney Weaver shows up. As it turns out she is very successful and the arch nemesis of her gray haired mom, Jamie Lee Curtis, although their circumstances were different. Marni becomes like JJ in order to destroy the wedding plans.

The movie tries to hard to project feel good emotion from the audience to the point it misses the mark (male writing this). Some scenes worked good, such as the dog scene, or the drive in the car past the high school. Other scenes, and there were too many of these, just stank such as the comedy of errors by Jamie Lee Curtis in the bathroom. Fans of Betty White will find feel she was under utilized and not nearly as good as she was in "The Proposal."
