This movie is nothing short of amazing! What makes it really special is that the movie's premise is still relevant today. What also surprised me was Andy Griffith's performance. I grew up watching him as the lovable, local sheriff in a North Carolina town and that persona has stuck with me for years. His role as Lonesome Rhodes is a polar opposite of the Mayberry sheriff we've known to love. He is a drinking, loud mouth, womanizing creep who's addicted to the power and influence that he spreads throughout the TV screens throughout the country. It baffles me that he wasn't nominated for an Oscar because his performance pulls you into the movie like a thick nylon rope pulling around your waist. This movie is an underrated classic!
