The Kovak Box (2006)
6/10
Engaging but ultimately somewhat disappointing
9 October 2019
Very engaging, suspenseful, and mysterious for about the first hour. After that it becomes a fairly run-of-the-mill thriller. In addition, the main storyline, including the connection between the writer character play by Tim Horton and his nemesis in the film, is murky. Other minor points aren't a big deal but are sort of annoying, including pointless nudity which is neither thematic or based in character development, and portraying the two protagonists as smokers. These items probably may seem like odd points of criticism, but are examples of unmotivated script elements which reflect a certain lack of polish for thoughtfulness.

Nonetheless, Tim Hutton is always worth watching, and the movie is entertaining despite its shortcomings.
