Good Suspense in Mission Up the River
12 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This action-packed episode resembles Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" in the journey up the river in the Congo. But in this series, the journey is up the Orinoco into the heart of darkness in Venezuela.

Marcus Bishop has decided to join the special ops force leaving from Tampa. A boat is dropped from the plane, and the parachuters land in the water below in the drop zone off Venezuela. During the splash-down, the communications devices incur water damage that will have fateful consequences at the end of the episode.

As Ms. Gloria Bonalde sees her children off to school with ham sandwiches, she is then taken to her political headquarters where she is warmly greeted like a benign version of Eva Peron. In a speech to the crowd, she reflects on the loss of her husband Sergio, who was declared a "missing person" like so many other dissidents in the repressive Reyes regime. She her rousing speech with a reference to the patriot Simon Boliver and his clarion call of freedom! Max Weber's theory of the power of the state is cited at a celebratory party for Gloria. Ensconced inside the Miraflores Palace, Pesident Reyes slowly comes to realize that Gloria is capable of winning the election.

The mission up the river proceeds on schedule with Jim and Dr. Jack linking up with the boat piloted by Marcus Bishop, who goes by the nickname of "Uber." The goal is strictly IRS: intelligence, surveillance, and target acquisition. The goal is to learn what armaments are being stashed in the forest.

The recon team's goal of avoiding "cowboy stuff" turns into the law of unintended consequences when Dr. Jack lingers too long in one of the storage containers. The crates do show up positive on Dr. Jack's geiger counter. The race is now on to leave the compound and to return to the boat with a party of the paramilitary unit in hot pursuit. Unfortunately, Uber has left his post to provide cover for the returning crew members. As a result, he is left behind as Dr. Jack and Jim are ferried to safety. In this episode, there is no sign of Lina/Lee Stein/Harriet Baumann/Harry. Her presence was desperately needed in the voyage up the river.
