Jingle Belle (2018 TV Movie)

Jingle Belle

Each year I watch these cheap Lifetime Christmas movies to get myself into the festive mood. I must have a memory of a goldfish. I ending up saying to myself 'Why do I subject myself to this each year?'

Isabelle Williams (Tatyana Ali) left her small hometown after graduation to go to New York and became a jingle writer. When she returns for the town's special anniversary Christmas show. She discovers that her former high school sweetheart Mike will be directing the show.

Isabelle left Mike behind to chase her dreams in the Big Apple. Mike stayed behind where some members of his family struggle to make ends meet.

After working on a new song together dedicated to their town, both rekindle their romance. However Isabelle's boss adores the new song and wants to use it as a jingle for a corporate client. Mike is not happy about this.

It is easy to dismiss this film as bland and inoffensive. It has almost an all black cast. It is like a Stevie Wonder & Paul McCartney song with black and white living together in perfect harmony.

Jingle Belle as with other similar festive themed movies from Lifetime or Hallmark have a horrible subtext. Small town good, where everyone pulls together and are there for each other regardless of religion, colour or creed.

Big city bad, you care more for yourself, you are greedy and have lost the true spirit of community and Christmas.

It passes the time by, the cast contains a few familiar faces from yesteryear. The song they composed together is awful.
