I binged this in two days.. I can't say I didn't enjoy it. However I think part of the reason I couldn't stop watching was because of how frustrated I was. First of all it's hyper unrealistic, but what can you expect from a teen drama where they're searching for lost gold. My complaint isn't that the plot is unrealistic, but the behavior of the individuals. For example, the policing aspect was incredibly aggravating.. they were terrible cops and it just didn't feel real. There's no way the sheriff herself would go to arrest a murder suspect by herself without backup. (This is a major plot point that makes the last few episodes possible.) Otherwise the manhunt would not have happened in the first place. Also the fact that anytime anyone had a chance to tell the truth about who killed who they either didn't say anything, or waited too long. Or also, law enforcement didn't do any fact checking or forensics on the murder. The whole manhunt thing was insane. The bounty? are you insane? It seems unlikely that a Sheriff's department would issue a bounty for merely a suspect. They had private citizens crawling all over the place. That would be terribly unsafe. Realistically they would have put out a notice to keep an eye out for him, but told everyone to stay inside if he were armed and dangerous.
Backtracking a bit here.. I was annoyed by the lack of normal people having guns. This is America... And the south at that. When the kids are being chased by the two crooks in the first few episodes no one does anything. And also, when JJ gets the gun they act as if it's some novel thing... again this is the USofA. Guns are not rare and are not uncommon.
One more thing.. John B isn't that great of a dude.. Telling Sarah that she can't come with him because "It's too dangerous"... Seems like a bit of a slap in the face after all they've been through and everything she had done for him.
TLDR: Honestly I enjoyed this show even though certain major plot points had me a little mad. Also this is my first review. Somehow this show prompted me to write a review..
