This movie is supposed to be unsavory, but James Fox never looked so good as when his eyes were rolling up. That scene where Dirk Bogarde's nude shadow looms large over the aristocrat and his fiancé is one of the great tricks this movie does with the walls, the shadow, the mirrors. The use of mirrors is absolute dynamite. A shady butler takes his time, but he takes a toll out on his new employer.
