Another D Van D film that doesn't fire.
12 July 2020
We've been enjoying The Dick Van Dyke Show, which we haven't seen since it was originally shown on UK TV in the 60's. We enjoyed it so much we started looking for his films, which we guessed would be just as good. Sadly, we were a bit disappointed with his movies, which all seemed rather weak, and this one is no exception. We've come to the conclusion that Dick is at his best in half-hour bursts on TV where the writers can give him the attention he needs and put him front and centre. In the D Van D show, he is surrounded by a great cast of likeable, genuinely funny characters who help keep his energy flowing, but the films are too nebulous to help him in this way. Still a great guy though.
