A Little Under-baked

Warning: Spoilers
I am a huge fan of Phineas and Ferb, and I was thrilled to see it return for a full movie! But I'd be lying if I said it was a little underwhelming. It took quite a long time for this movie to find its footing, but after it did, it definitely became a more interesting adventure of Phineas and Ferb. The conflict of the movie is that Candace feels like the universe is against her, and that her brothers are what's ruining her life. This conflict is amazing in concept, and is definitely a fantastic side of the story to tell, but the delivery feels a little under-baked. Even the emotional climax of the film felt a little unearned. I felt the heart, but at that point I didn't exactly understand why Candace was so unexpectedly sad. Candace's arc was really inconsistent, and she only really felt like herself at the very beginning and the very end. The jokes were about as good as they were in season four of the series, which was the weaker of the show. Some jokes were great, and I audibly laughed, but others were just ok. The short list of musical numbers in this film weren't the same quality that I had expected from this series, with the exception being the opening song that was funny and catchy. I feel like it's fair to compare this movie to its predecessor, "Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension", which I feel like has bested this film in every possible way. "2nd Dimension" had it's incredible story presented excellently with its visuals, dialogue, and musical numbers. I also have to mention that some of the jokes in this movie had me laughing hysterically! The emotional beats broke your heart and made you feel for the characters. The climax of the movie was the massive battle that brought together everything we love about Phineas and Ferb, and that scene felt like a reward for everything that the characters had gone through. "Candace against the Universe" fell apart in almost every way comparatively. The musical number that finished this movie was pleasant, and upbeat, but still didn't sum up the show or this movie in a satisfying way. This movie could've been an amazing Phineas and Ferb side-story, but it just doesn't feel completed.
