Imagining Russia's Early Arctic Adventures
12 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
What makes this a great movie is its sympathetic, strong-willed heroine, and the amazingly beautiful animation, both of St. Petersburg's glorious imperial architecture and the arctic landscape. In that sense, it was a nice follow-up to Anastasia, but with a less romantic (if equally glamorous) portrait of Czarist Russia; the story has almost no historical basis, and if anything seems closer to British arctic adventures than Russian arctic exploration. It's also quite tense at times, and Sienna didn't like that Sasha's grandfather had died, but their connection is made stronger in the end through the shared, if differently experienced, discovery.

Sienna's rating: 9 stars Paul's rating: 8 stars Sebastian's rating: DNF (Watching Octonauts)
