"The Drowning Pool" is not a high-water mark for any of the people involved but it's also not a low-water mark either. It's a middle of the road for everyone. I've seen "the Drowning Pool" a few times now. It has a lot of good stuff going for it. The only real demerit it gets has to do with the pacing. The movie seems to drag at times. It's never boring but my interest fades every now and then. I'm a big fan of the detective movies of the 1970s. "The Drowning Pool" is an okay installment in that genre. When I talk about those detective movie, I usually forget to mention "The Drowning Pool".
