Review of Pina

Pina (2011)
7/10
Unique and interesting
9 January 2021
This 3-D documentary comprises modern dance sequences from the late German choreographer Pina Bausch who died unexpectedly shortly before the film began shooting. There are also interviews with Bausch and the principal dancers in various languages.

The dance sequences were beautifully done. Some were on a stage while others were outdoors. As directed by Wim Wenders, the overall effect is unique and pays off in ways that could not fully be experienced at a stage performance - especially when film tricks are used.

The interview sequences were unique as well. The interviewees' voices were heard while their faces were shown staring blankly at the camera.

At a run of an hour and three-quarters, interest waned a bit by the end. However, the film was a fine tribute to the performing arts.
