Terrific Cast; Very Good Film
11 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This film has 3 A-List actors: George Raft, Humphrey Bogart and an incredibly young William Holden (21 years old). He is almost almost unrecognizable (even his voice is high). It opens with a shot of Sing Sing Prison in Ossining, NY. The 2 part plot is obvious. (A) You try to "go straight" but can't because you're an ex-con ("Cliff"/George Raft) or (B) You go back to "being a con" ("Chuck"/Humphrey Bogart). Regardless, I find it terrific to see these brilliant actors together; especially Holden (whose billed higher than Bogart). The supporting cast is great, too. Of course, nothing compares to my 3 favorite "gangster" films: "The Public Enemy" (1931), "I Am A Fugitive From a Chain Gang" (1932) & especially "Scarface" (1932). A must see.
