Joe Martin is an expatriate American, living and working in the south of France. Although he tries to keep his mysterious past from his wife, the arrival of an underworld gang at their home brings matters to a head. Ross, the gang's leader, blackmails Joe into using his boat for drug smuggling but the tough American is not so easily dealt with..

If you are expecting a frantic action-revenge thriller a la Death Wish, you won't get it. What you will get is an efficient thriller set in the next idyllic commune of Villefranche-surmer with narrow winding cliff roads. There's enough twist in the plot to keep your eyes glued. Charles Bronson really acts well as the ghosts of his past - the gang he left to rot in prison- catches up with him, and he has to keep it together to get himself and his family alive. James Mason, Jill Ireland as a hippy gangster moll and Liv Ullman as Bronson's wife lend an able support. An edgy car chase filmed from multiple angles, panoramic surroundings and Bronson's performance make this watchable.
