A good watch, but I would not call this as a classic.

This is not David Lean's best work, but its a good watch. I have read the book and saw the movie, now I can the book is better than the movie. Not that the movie is not good, the flow and the momentum that book has, it's not there in the movie. It do gets slow somewhere in the movie. I get it the book is complicated with so many social issue being addressed. It's very tricky to make a cinema on the book. This would be the main reason why Lean decided to have the screenplay written by him.

The story is about Adela Quested (Judy Davis) who travels to India with her future mother-in-law, Mrs. Moore (Peggy Ashcroft) and meets the local people. They plan a trip to the cave and something happens there which is not explained in the movie and the things takes a wrong turn. The second half of the movie features a tensed legal battle.

Lean's work is slow sometimes and gets the pace only in the second half of the movie. Yes, there are some very unexplained and unexpected twists in the movie which seems to be bit confusing as some events occur without any explanation.
