The Skin Game (1931)
6/10
Mediocre by Hitchcock standards

Warning: Spoilers
This is a hard one to write about because this movie, despite being still copyrighted, has been bootlegged a ridiculous amount of times on home video. Most copies look and sound like garbage, but the one that I own says it was sourced from the best possible prints. It definitely doesn't really have any resemblance to later Hitchcock movies, except for the fact that there's a death or two later on. The movie is about a feud between two families, one of which is very wealthy. One of the families (the Hornblowers) enjoys buying land and then kicking people off of it in order to build industrial centers. The movie also depicts an auction where people are bidding over some land, and later on, one of the female characters commits suicide. I have overall mixed feelings about early Hitchcock movies in general. I really want to like them because there are some standouts like Sabotage, Manxman, The Man Who Knew Too Much, and The Lodger, but I have to admit a lot of them (like this one) age about as well as milk. The interiors of the 1930s houses is interesting to look at, but other than a few memorable scenes, there's not much to say. This is the first Hitchcock movie that I simply don't recommend.
