Review of A Woman's Face

7/10
lesser known J Crawford
10 June 2021
Joan Crawford, after The Women, but a couple years before Mildred Pierce. Some fun co-stars, in this very serious film (Donald Meeks, Marjorie Main, Melvyn Douglas). Crawford is Anna Holm, who has a disfigured face, causing her to turn to blackmail to survive. When she gets plastic surgery, she tries to leave that life behind. But that life seems to pursue her anyway... it's not so easy to leave one's friends and one's past in the past. It's a remake of the swedish film from 1938, with Ingrid Bergman. This version is just okay. All the parts could really be played by anyone. They sure didn't do much with Meeks, Main, or even Conrad Veidt. Original play by Francis de Croisset. Directed by Cukor, who worked with so many HUGE stars, and finally got his oscar years after making this.
