I can only think the book must've been better and made more sense because the movie plot is bizarre. The synopsis describes Michele's character as a model but she isn't; she doesn't seem to have any job, just a hang-about lunatic. There is some small attempt to give her behavior motivation but there's no reason why Elvis would fall for her.
