This is indeed an excellent continuation to Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge, but it doesn't have enough focus on any single character, and true to its title, there indeed is the battle of the realms happening.
Some of the great aspects maintained by this movie is that it portrays gore well, the essence of the Mortal Kombat games are upheld extremely well, even far better than the live action movie, even the finishing signatures of some have been well executed. The voice actors did a fantastic job as well.
Some of the problematic things most noticeable about this movie are the writing inconsistencies. Some characters, like Liu Kang, fight too well, and are even given advantage and plot convenience (curing a curse just by activating powers?), whereas others like Kung Lao are treated as punching bags. Raiden who is said to be the originator of Wu Shu doesn't demonstrate it enough in the movie. Shao Kahn is merciful towards some but not towards some others. Scorpion and Kung Lao have been very conservative about teleporting, and Sub Zero on using ice substitutes or shields.
The ending gives some hope as Raiden is shown to have probably resurrected as the thunder god again. So overall the movie still remains very much recommendable and enjoyable.
