Atmospheric...but very, very slow.

"Horror" ("The Blancheville Monster") is not a bad film. But it's so slow and plodding that by the time the excellent ending occurs, most folks simply won't care.

The story is supposedly set in the 1880s, though the costumes look like they're from the 1840s-60s. Regardless, a young lady and her friends arrive at her ancestral home...only to find all the staff has bee replaced and her brother acting rather strangely. And, later they learn that her father is still alive...but mad and being held in the tower. Some time after this, bad things start to happen....and it appears as if the mad father is behind this.

I wonder is much of the reason there isn't that much dialog and there is more staring is that this is a European production that was probably dubbed into many different languages. Regardless, the film just seems to plod along...very slowly. I think the basic story is good but the directions, slow pace and occasional bad dubbing consign this to the category 'for horror nuts only'.
