I prefer this over the 1934 original!

Okay, I'm an oddball for sure, cause I seem to be the only one who not only appreciates this movie, but who actually preferred it over the 1934 original, "It Happened One Night"!

The songs were lackluster for the most part, but a couple of them were almost perfect, and I thought the leads had great chemistry! The only thing that bugged me were how the characters acted sometimes, but that's a script/story issue, not the actors. And it bugged me in the first movie too. But this one actually made me feel things (things other than frustration)...

This movie made me feel how much both the characters ultimately cared about each-other, and no-one can make me feel cheerful or sad quite like June Allyson! In the scene when June was in bed, Jack Lemmon's character- through a blanket wall- was lamenting how he couldn't seem to find 'the one', and she asked, holding back tears "Have you ever looked?" knowing that 'the one' is really her, I felt that!

I don't know how so many people miss the sweet nuance of this film, but it's head and shoulders above the other in that regard. And funny! The scene were they are pretending to be a squabbling married couple when investigators knock had me laughing out loud, and appreciating more than ever what a true comedic talent June Allyson was, and this was one of the few chances she got to let it shine.

So, I don't know why everyone seems to have missed all this, but you're missing out- cause while not great (thanks mostly to some lackluster songs that should have been better), this is a VERY GOOD movie, and I rather love it!
