Enjoyable, tongue-in-cheek update of classic film series.
4 November 2021
While it helps to have an appreciation of the noir "Thin Man" film series this witty, comedic murder mystery stands on its own. Hollywood take note - actor/writer/producer Patrick Askin delivers a project which transcends its slim budget, a visual and auditory feast. And he's generous with the funny, allowing his stylishly costumed cast to shine. It's a hoot watching them have fun with their roles; they make the most of their parts, both familiar and unfamiliar. Spoiler alert - I suspect the "mean hag" is a cinematic first! Another first for many despite our collective familiarity with that most filmed of cities, Manhattan, are the numerous sumptuously shot venues. If you're looking to escape the everyday just settle into your leather wingback chair in your ascot and smoking jacket with a shaken martini (or jammies and a Cosmo!) and enjoy this jewel-toned gem of a film.
