Stop giving musical artists a pass
20 November 2021
The only one with any strong acting ability is Naturi. Even then she comes off as forced but how could you not when the script is so weak and cringe worthy? Not every singer or rapper is a good actor and I think most people will give them a pass just bc they are fans of their music. Doesn't mean they can act. If that were true Ice Cube would have a Golden Globe for Are We There Yet? So desperate for ratings it's like the writers are just throwing up whatever phrases they get from black culture on social media. Everybody and their momma is a queen now. Even the title couldn't be more obviously pandering to the black demographic as it's primary source of ratings. Music is whack. Please, they give us a song like "That Chick" bc she can't say "I'm that b****h" on prime time obviously. Someone said Eve was good on the Eve show which makes it very evident they lack any background in acting/drama for that matter. Eve is one of the dopest female rappers. Just because I like her music doesn't mean I'm going to lie to myself. She is NOT a good actress. Moesha had its time and even then I thought Brandy's acting wasn't strong and the reason it was on air for so long is probably bc the supporting actors carried the show. So many people in the industry give these artists a script because it's guaranteed ratings. Not because they possess actual talent for the screen. Maybe in the studio. But not on screen. Stop pretending that your fav rapper or singer is an equally good actor when they are not. The black community is capable of producing cinema that requires intellect and insight rather than just confirming obvious hood stereotypes. Yet time and time again networks only give us a chance if we act like stereotypes. This is absolute trash. I wonder if there were even auditions. Probably just sent them all a script with their fingers crossed that Brandy and Eve would say yes. Naturi is so much better than this. I won't even comment on the other two. If you like predictable and cliché punchlines, then this is for you. If you have taste, please change the channel.
