My Haunted House (2013–2016)
9/10
One of the better Travel Channel ghosts productions
10 December 2021
For the past 3 years, I have watched every show I could on the T. C. that isn't "ghost hunting". I have to say, this is top of the line of the offered fare. It has strong production values, the acting is very good, at least every one knows how to act unlike in LifeTime "movies" (Heh ...I don't receive that many channels, folks!)

I think this is one of the first such series I tuned into, and I've been mainly disappointed with subsequent shows that don't have the production values they do here. I mean the camera angles, the directing, the editing, everything is pretty good. Not to mention the scares: they're done just right, with minimum amount of "blood & guts" and no gore. Just the way I like it.

It took a while to get used to the cut to commercial every 5 min and then repeat of the last 2 min before commercial break, but this is par for the course at the Travel Channel. Now, early on, I started doing research on some of these stories. It doesn't take long to figure out that, yes, some of the people telling "their" story are actually actors playing real people, and other actors are recreating their alleged stories. That doesn't faze me.

Now, if you've never lived through something like this, good for you. While some would give anything to have such an "adventure", I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum where I'd like my life back, back when I "knew" all this to be fake. Sadly, it isn't so. Although, granted, I haven't met all these entities, apparitions, ghosts and monsters, my unwitting experiences have been such that I seek such shows to "feel normal". And deep down, I dread the next time such an encounter will occur, but somehow I do know it's brewing.

For the rest, don't be too hard on the folks scoffing and rating it low: back before I knew this stuff was for real, my attitude was "are they taking us for imbeciles?" and "these people are mentally ill!" but now I know differently.

I just wish they would get to it and produce more episodes. I also wish the other T. C. shows (Haunted Hospitals, Haunted Hotels, Paranormal Witness These Woods are Haunted etc. Etc.) would hire whoever is responsible for the high quality shows here (D. P.? Director? Editor? Writers?) and get to it and create better content for those shows. Not only that, I wish the T. Ch. Would quit renaming shows and splicing segments into new titles. Now THAT is taking us for imbeciles! (See the Robert Englund show, which has 3 different titles, showing the same exact episodes in such "cut & paste" fashion.)

As I said, some of these stories are made up. That will be entertainment. I think one of the stories that was the most gripping was "Home, Sweet Hell" that of Lori Settle. I was shocked when I researched it, to find out the lady had indeed met her demise, most likely at the "hands" of the entity, just like she predicted. Chilling!

As for why I won't watch "ghost hunting" shows: post-prod added EVP and stick figures dancing in a darkened room are boring: you've seen one, you've pretty much seen them all! (And don't get me started on their dumb hosts!)

I'd rate this at 8/10, being that there's much room for improvement, but this isn't the 80s when they made fantastic television productions so, for what it is, and to bump its rating on here a bit, I'm giving it a 9/10.
