Its heart is in the right place, but unfortunately it's let down by banal writing and directing.
Many of the actors -- MIchael Shannon, Ian McShane, Ron Perlman -- aren't particularly known for their comedic skills. In fact, they are mostly known for their intense dramatic roles so maybe they weren't the best choice for actors here.
Some scenes showed inspiration -- the Jaws ripoff, the spoof of Christian Bale's -- but there were too few of these. Other plot elements such as the whole Furry thing were meant to be funny, but just come off as cringy.
