It's not about the androids.

Warning: Spoilers
I think this film gets so many low ratings, because it's expected to be about androids and it's not.

I'm not saying there aren't short comings in the realm of "these are the things that make a *good* film" because there are. The script is a little weak in parts but it's not that bad. Theres some plot holes and weird movie logic. There's not a lot of development about the androids as to why they're acting like they are, where they come from and how.

But, it's not about the androids.

In similar films, there's some bad ass character wanting to know how everything happened. They're former military, cops, scientists, etc. In this movie, they are regular people who just found out they made a baby and the world ended.

The film is about Georgia.

The casting of Georgia and Sam was a great move. There is some real chemistry between the characters that works well on screen. It's easy to believe they love each other.

It's refreshing to see the main character and "hero" be an average woman, in these kinds of films.

This movie drew me in pretty quickly with some subtle foreshadowing in the first few scenes. This is not a high action film, it is a slow burn.

There is very little CGI and Special FX and what is there, is pretty well done. Visually the film isn't ground breaking but it's a good aesthetic that works.

You can very clearly see where the writer draws inspiration from: iRobot, AI, Terminator, and arguably Wayward Pines. Where the writer deviates from the troupes though, is by not making it about the robots.

Is the film super impressive or overly unique? No. It's not the greatest film ever made - but it's also not that bad. I found the ending heart wrenching and appreciated that not everything was a pretty bow.
