Brothers (IX) (2016)
8/10
Lovely, short delight
21 February 2022
The scenery's spectacular staging and visual presentation works smoothly and is quite authentic. The development of the plot, on the other hand, is more stringent than historical circumstances - the story is based on chaotic source material - would suggest. The impression that the fate of the two brothers in the film is always uncertain creates a certain amount of tension, similar to various plot connections that are touched upon. However, this tension is never sufficiently resolved, which is probably due to the length of the work. Ethan Li and Peter Ho, who have the leading roles, embody their characters excellently. That can't be said about some of the supporting roles though, as the emotional range of some of the characters is never adequately explored.
