Refreshing perspective
27 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The movie gives an idea of what life was like for Anne Frank's girlfriend and Anne Frank herself (and the families). It doesn't really go in dept, but you get a general idea of how it was for a Jew in the occupied Amsterdam and in the concentration camp Bergen-Belsen.

Movies like this are really important, so everyone knows how horrible war is.

The film gives me a different picture of Anne Frank, sometimes a bit annoying. She is playful and ''happy'' despite what is happening in Amsterdam at the time. Hannah Goslar is less playful and adventurous. She is just more aware of the surrounding situation. She sometimes seems a bit obsessed with Anne Frank. For example, when she could have left Bergen-Belsen, but wanted to stay to give Anne Frank food. Putting Anne Frank before herself and her family. The movie really shows the strong bond Anne and Hannah had.

The film is from Hannah Goslar's her perspective. This provides a fresh look at the Anne Franks story, which makes it worth watching if you are interested in the stories around the 2nd world war, in my opinion.

Good
  • New perspective
  • Interesting story
  • Good story telling
  • The different languages
  • Perfect actors for the rolls (Anne and Hannah)

Bad
  • Fast-paced
  • The switch between the languages Dutch and German for non-Dutch and German speakers.

  • Sometimes misses logic (Hannah standing next to a fence talking with Anne with guards towers everywhere).
