Possibly the most significant American event of the 80s. It's hard to measure the effects Challenger had on children that witnessed the event live in their classrooms, and how that shaped culture. Similar to JFK and 9/11, the impact was felt throughout all American culture for years. The event set back space travel probably three decades, and showed how poor the Shuttle truly was.
