An American Western; A story about two cowhands who drift into Montana and stumble across a bunch of rustlers trying to steal a large herd of cattle. The film is based on a Zane Gray novel. It has a familiar plot but it is well acted and has a surprisingly good musical score for a B film. John Wayne gives a good performance as the cocky cowboy gambler in trouble even if his characterisation is a little rough round the edges. The action, fast chases, gun-fights, romance and heroics, and the suspense of poker gambling are all engaging and enjoyable, but it is a slight film in terms of theme and the credibility and motivation of the characters such as the hapless cousin.
