"Moving Day" episode 20 from season 2 of "NBC's" "Amazing Stories" which first aired on April 3, 1987 was one interesting and feel good episode to watch as the escape and sci-fi theme feel fit the mood of the series well. Set in California Alan Webster(Stephen Geoffreys from 1985's "Fright Night") a nerd like science fiction comic book reading teen is stuck at home while he's not in the high school clique he still tries to impress a girl. Well still he finds interest in his dad Val's inventions while his mother Mara(the late Mary Ellen Trainor from "Lethal Weapon", and "Tales from the Crypt") breaks some revealing news to Alan it's like things might be a big stressful shakeup. Only Alan discovers something underneath the house. Soon it's a quest and move 85 billion miles away to the planet Alturus! Overall interesting escape episode that was a sci-fi like homage and the acting from Mary Ellen as always was top notch, really this was one of the memorable late episodes of the series.
