The Hunt (II) (2020)

Not my cup of worms, but fun

The story was interesting, and the first sequence in which we could only guess who the main character was, brilliant. But when we came to the main character I felt she was maybe a bit bland, boring in a sense. Betty Gilpin, the actor for Crystal, did a fine job, but still I didn't feel super invested with the character. The dialogue felt either brilliant, such as with the rabbit race scene, and other times cringy. I liked how the director and writers used stereotypes and the flawed two-party system in America to show how they mark each other without even knowing them, and sometimes the dialogue fit that brilliance. While other times it fell flat down on the pavement. The villain(s) was all just mediocre, nothing special, nothing to point out, it was just bad rich people wanting revenge on the "have nots" who took away their jobs. They just didn't make sense and the portrayal was mediocre, perhaps because of the screenwriting. The humor was a blending mess, either really funny or not. The raw power of Crystal (Snowball) was superhuman. She just lifted up a man weighting around 110-120kg onto a moving train, and the last fight scene she threw Athena around like rag doll. I guess a tour to Afghanistan makes you superhuman like Captain America. And can we talk about Sgt. Dale, and how he gets his ass kicked in easily by Crystal, while Athena gets multiple takedowns on Crystal. It's stated that Athena had been training for 8 months. Ok, good, but isn't a soldier like Crystal still a better fighter, she was in the military where the average service is around 4 years. What? A trained soldier vs. Another trained soldier is a fair fight, and should be a difficult victory when putting in account weight difference. And the final fight was just kinda bland and disappointing. But enough rambling, all I wanted was some better fight scenes. The movie was average, it had highs and lows. But the lows are easier to spot, because it's obviously easier to be negative and harsh then positive and uplifting. But I see some shine in the dirt. It had polish, good effects, good shticks, good script at times and mediocre characters. Would I recommend it. Yes. Why not? It's fun.
