Blade II (2002)
7/10
Fast-paced, dark & enjoyable
25 June 2022
After rescuing Whistler (who had been kidnapped by vampires) Blade is once again called in to action when he learns that a new breed of vampires known as 'Reapers' are wrecking havoc by feeding primarily on vampire blood - though they feed on human blood too. With the help of a specially trained-team known as the bloodpack, Blade and his crack team set to work in finding & destroying the Reapers host Nomak...

Blade 2 offers many of the same qualities that were evident in the first film; plenty of action, good choreography, good special effects and a reasonable story. The story in this film is a little more expansive and slightly bigger in scale (in this film literally nobody is safe, not even vampires). In a sense this gives this film a slight more sense of urgency and I have to admit that I found this film to be faster paced than the original.

Snipes is good in the lead role once again, though I felt that he didn't seem to be having quite as much fun here as he did in the original film, though this is a slight negative it doesn't create a huge problem in the grand scheme of things. The supporting cast are variable with the good (Kristofferson, Perlman and Goss) to the not so good (Varela). One thing I did like is that the film still had a vein of humour pulsating through the dark tone - this is mostly created by the uneasy alliance between the bloodpack and Whistler/Snipes (with Whistler being responsible for many of the humourous exchanges).

Blade 2 is every bit as good as the first film IMHO and is definitely worth seeing (particularly if you enjoyed the first film).
