The Stunt Man (1980)

Cameron (Steve Railsback) is a fugitive on the run. He comes upon a WWI battle scene being filmed on the beach. He befriends leading lady Nina Franklin (Barbara Hershey) and the director, Eli Cross (Peter O'Toole). Cross gives him the job as lead stunt man after an accident with the last one.

This is trying to be a fun take on Hollywood production. I love the behind the scene stuff with the movie in the movie. The beach scene suggests a brutal realistic portrayal of war. On the other hand, the chaotic action at Hotel del Coronado points to a more slapstick Keystone Cops movie. It should be more consistent. Nevertheless, I like a lot of the action. As for the leads, two out of three ain't bad. O'Toole is superb. Cameron does come alive in his final argument with Eli. Also, I would like Cameron to be completely innocent. He's a troubled character in the center.
