I never knew a movie could surpass my low expectations. THE TRUTH ABOUT CHARLIE is admirable in that it wants to be more than a standard shot by shot remake of a classic. It's trying to reimagine the classic Hollywood fairy tale world of the original as a gritty, Nouvelle Vague thriller. I can admire that spirit of playful experimentation while conceding that nothing about this works and that the in your face direction is truly headache inducing.
