For an Amazon Prime feature film, "Run, Sweetheart, Run" was a disappointment. The film began with what appeared to be a feminist message with Chérie Vida taking a stand for the female employees in the law firm where she works. Later in the film, Chérie and three other women proclaim the current year as "The Year of the Woman." But the message was hollow, based on the film's content. Even the film's title had a sexist ring.
A demonic creature, perhaps a werewolf, is on the loose with the overall objective of keeping women subservient in the world. The drama unfolded as a lengthy chase scene through the night in Los Angeles, as "Eric" plays a game of "the hunter and the hunted" with Chérie.
The actress playing Chérie was terrific in what turned into a thankless role. The emphasis was on a set of gruesome action scenes with the werewolf Ethan bumping off interesting characters like Chérie's ex-husband Trey.
Until Chérie meets "The First Lady," her chances of surviving the night appear bleak. The confrontations of Chérie with Evan were repetitive and lackluster. The film never broke through its predictable action sequences to deliver its message, becoming only a routine horror film.
