You can't be too careful when buying a second-hand car

Warning: Spoilers
Enjoying her fledgling independence, a young woman buys a second-hand car. It's a nice sleek Jaguar that must once have been rather posh. The Jag makes for a fine vehicle, but that's not the problem : the problem consists of distressing passengers and eerie noises...

"Mr. Wrong" is a well-made horror movie with an original plot and some genuinely scary scenes. It also contains touches of wit. For instance, our car-buying protagonist happens upon an unsettling news article when performing a domestic chore, to wit wrapping china in paper. Reading the rest of the article asks for a lot of unwrapping... The production budget seems to have been limited, but then, not all movies are supposed to astound the masses with their opulence.

I think that the movie may cut closer to the bone for women than for men. That is because the horror is grounded in the real-life fear of many women - the fear of running into some random bloke who'll turn threatening because he feels you weren't friendly enough ("What's wrong, missy, think you're too good for me ?") or, alternatively, because he feels you were too friendly ("So why did you invite me in if you didn't want sex ? You dirty tease !") A fair number of women drivers don't want to take along male hitchhikers because they're afraid of getting trapped in situations such as these. Women drivers also tend to discover there exists a certain type of man that really, truly doesn't want to see a woman sitting behind a wheel of a car, especially when the car is expensive or powerful. The mere sight of a long blond mane dancing cheerily in the wind can suffice to unleash such a man's worst instincts. And then there's the faux-Sir Galahad, who, after helping out with some trifling problem, expects to be rewarded, preferably in kind.

For clarity's sake, I'm not trying to claim that all men are sex pests or worse ; I'm just pointing out that many women, while driving, will have to deal with threats and obstacles unknown to their male counterparts.
