Even The Dog Has A Good Part
1 December 2022
Pilot Bob Cummings falls in love with war refugee Olivia De Havilland and asks her to marry him. At first she refuses for reasons she won't explain. When she finally says yes, he finds out why: she's a princess. However, though everyone agrees, Cummings finds out he has to give up something precious to him: his American citizenship.

Norman Krasna's debut as a director won him an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, but a lot of people were unhappy, including Miss De Havilland, who got the Supreme Court to agree that a studio couldn't suspend an actor and add the time to her contract. Nonetheless, it's a charming movie, full of fantasy and pride in being American, and excellent roles for Jack Carson, Jane Wyman, Charles Cobun, Minor Watson, and even Miss De Havilland... although I understand why she was getting tired of these parts.
