Baby, It's Cold Inside (2021 TV Movie)
7/10
Strangely familiar to "Winter Castle"

6.9 stars.

A woman and her best friend travel to an ice hotel instead of going on their originally planned tropical cruise. She finds inspiration on this icy vacation while helping the hotel owner out of a bind, falling in love with him in the process.

If ice sculptures could perform we would not be able to differentiate between them and the leads of this film. Both actors did absolutely no justice to the roles they played. Hudon is about as wooden as can be with the perma-grin phenomenon and the lopsided expressions. She could not find her mojo in this role at all. I found myself grimacing a few times with her caricatured smiles and unfocused performance. What a striking contrast to some of her other movies. I can't help but assume that Mr. Lund was just reacting to her uncomfortable portrayal. His interpretation was somewhat wooden also, but maybe it is appropriate as a reaction to her character's personality, which consists of a profound lack of confidence in her abilities. He did the best he could under the circumstances.

I saw this movie the first time when it was called "Winter Castle", a Hallmark production that was released a couple years prior to this one. It featured the same, or similar ice hotel, and it was a much better film in every way, including storyline, acting, dialogue, and chemistry. I would have to admit, however, that "Baby, It's Cold Inside" has slightly better lighting and sets. And the title is very un-exciting, certainly not conducive of attracting viewers.

I didn't realize there are so many ice castles in the world. I guess this movie is realistic in the sense that this one is actually located somewhere in North America. There are indeed ice castles in the states and in Canada, but I suppose the original is in Sweden? Good stuff. I would skip this movie and watch "Winter Castle" instead.
