This episode takes everything you've seen before and turns it completely on its head. Clues to what happens in this story were offered in prior ones that hinted at the past and present existing at the same time with the potential of multiple realities. We saw that particularly with Molly's (Melanie Lynskey) visions and Ruth Deaver's (Sissy Spacek) lapses of memory with her Alzheimer's condition. Still, for the uninitiated with Stephen King's style of writing, the apparent lack of continuity can be frustrating and confusing. The idea of multiple timelines through which characters can cross over isn't explicitly spelled out, so that takes some getting used to. It's quite clever how the writers and filmmakers bring you right back to the beginning of the larger story with the adult Kid/Henry Deaver (Bill Skarsgård) observing the rescue of the young adopted Henry Deaver on the frozen lake. Try not to analyze it all too closely, it will only make your head hurt.
