Before getting into details , to be precise Ponniyin Selvan 1 and 2 are collection of well crafted standalone scenes put in an incoherent sequence .

Ponniyin Selvan 2 starts off with a beautiful romance sequence between teenage Aditha Karikalan and Nandini , reminding us of Maniratnam's trademark style . Movie continues the story from the prequel and revealing the unanswered questions behind the Nandini's character . First half was good and exhausting as same time , the narrative just jumps from one good scene to another good scene but majorly missed the connectivity between them , this kind of narrative really needed good attention from the audience . Same goes to Second half , but irrelevant climax war sequence and unsatisfying conclusion slightly pulls down the second half . This time characters which had less scope in part 1 had better scope in this and at sametime missed some characters that had better scope on part 1 . Performance wise casts did their part very well . Cinematography was great , with good color grading , delivers a granduer visuals . Production design were topnotch . ARR Bhai asusual gave terrific composition , this time except one or two songs other songs weren't that noticeable but somehow contributes sub consciously . These technical aspects were really better than first part and elevates the theatrical experience .

Overall , it's understandable that concising a five parts novel into a two parts movie is an insane task but still Maniratnam and his team did a good job . If you really liked PS1 then definitely don't miss out to watch PS2 because it's better than it's prequel in many aspects .
