Review of Kandahar

Kandahar (2023)
6/10
A Good Attempt But Lacks Depth
18 June 2023
Kandahar is a good attempt at rivaling Guy Ritchie's The Covenant. However while it's got lots of action and Gerard Butlers amazing acting skills it doesn't have the same depth to it in terms of story.

It tries here and there to slow down for a minute and get some background and depth about the characters and their situations but it's not enough. The story otherwise is pretty simple and is good otherwise. It's interesting for what it is and relies more on the action to move it along.

The casting is great, Gerard Butler is really great in his role of MI6 agent fighting for his survival in the Middle East. Ali Fazal who plays Pakistani agent Kahil is both good looking and absolutely nails his role. While Travis Fimmel rocks as Roman and Navid Negahban plays our translator man, really well as well I might add.

VFX and SFX were great, the movie relied on explosions and gun battles to get the audience through it and it shows that they put a lot of money and effort into making it good. So well done there.

Overall it gets a 6/10. The acting was all really good, the fight scenes were pretty interesting and definitely looked good but the story for me just didn't pull me in or engage me as much as The Covenant or Extraction 2 did. So well done to the cast and crew but being released at the same time as The Covenant and Extraction 2 means it will be compared to them both and unfortunately it's just a tier below both unfortunately.
