Amanpour & Company (2018– )
10/10
Insightful and educational

I don't care for the news, because there's so much going on (mostly negative), and it gets overwhelming. However, I watch this to catch up on what's happening in the world of politics. The View is okay, but it's too subjective. Just like every other talk show, it's more or less for entertainment, than for obtaining information or becoming intellectually enlightened. You're only hearing one perspective. Amanpour & Company, on the other hand, takes a deep dive into global issues. Experts and authors are interviewed within the fields of foreign affairs, technology, and business. Christiane Amanpour is so professional. She doesn't interrupt or talk over the guests, or try to force her opinions on them, and she asks thought-provoking questions. If people are going to discuss current events, I can do without them shouting at the camera or telling jokes, like mispronouncing a politician's last name on purpose to make it sound goofy (I'm referring to Joy Behar. I know she's a comedian, but doing that on national TV is childish). I don't need to be wound up, or laugh. With all of the anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, gun violence that's plaguing communities, and people who have OUD (opioid use disorder) being stigmatized when they go to the ER for help, there's nothing funny about the state of our country. If you like to get your news from social media, and/or random websites where nothing is fact-checked, be my guest - but I prefer to hear an unbiased take on things. Considering we're living in an age of fearmongering, I'm thankful for this show, and PBS in general.
