#1/4: Doctor Mordrid (1992)

(7/10): Originally an attempt to make a low budget Dr. Strange film but having the script getting lost and there already being one Full Moon Decided to make a clone and the result is Doctor Mordrid.

Doctor Mordrid is about a reclusive wizard type who is a professor named Mordrid who is also the tenant of the building he lives in. When Mordrid is told by his master that an unspeakable evil named Kabal is planning to release the demons from the other realm and destroy the human world, Mordrid is the only one who can stop him.

It's not as thrilling or action packed as you would imagine but it's a short, digestible 74 minutes long so it really doesn't overstay its welcome too much.

Popular character actor, Jeffrey Combs, who is known for Re-Animator, From Beyond and The Frighteners plays the role of Mordrid and while it's not his best performance, it's not his worst and he makes for a compelling enough character.

The campiness is high in this one and it makes it pretty enjoyable, there's some low budget digital effects that look really cool and even some stop motion dinosaur skeletons.

The costumes look decent but some could've used a bit extra touches just to make them have a bit more flair and also look a bit more memorable, the best costume by far is Mordrid's, in fact everything about Mordrid just makes this movie; the look, demeanour, actor choice, everything.

Doctor Mordrid is a fun little change up from the superhero formula that if you're looking for something different you should probably check out, don't expect solid gold but it's different enough while being familiar enough to have it fit right in its own little niche category and it has easily become a staple of Full Moon's Library.
