Warning: Spoilers
The story of the preparation of a group of Royal Navy sailors to man three midget submarines for an attack on a German battleship sheltering in a fiord. They succeed but not without loss. The group is led by stoical Commander Bolton, underplayed by top billed James Caan. The rest of the cast are decent enough. The film has a simple plot with the training taking up most of it which to some may appear rather dull but there is a lively action scene when enemy troops attack the British base and the attack on the battleship at the end is quite gripping. The film benefits from its clear narrative, its lack of a romantic subplot and an excellent music score by Ron Goodwin. I found it watchable.
