Fun for character performances more than plot.

Warning: Spoilers
This Monogram Charlie Chan (Sidney Toler) programmer dealing with counterfeiters set aboard a passenger cruise ship and later on in the tropics is pretty typical of its type. The presence of some good character actors (particularly Dick Elliot as an overly chatty passenger who's obviously holding something and Willie Best, stepping in for Mantan Moreland) adds atmosphere, but the story is rather bland and filled with cliches.

As #2 son Jimmy, Victor Sen Yung returns, and is an improvement over younger brother Tommy, obviously having matured in the intervening years. He balances Willie Best out in incompetence unlike Tommy did, and his presence shows a more grounded character whom Charlie can't quite insult as much, although he tries. Gloria Warren is also present as a pretty but bland passenger, with Joseph Crehan commanding as the ship's captain. But overall, just so-so.
