Unclear motives for some characters

Warning: Spoilers
The motives of some characters were rather fuzzy (what was Carbera trying to achieve through the show? Was he just corrupted?), which led to some filler scenes with little to add to the plot. Also, what were the real motives of Ana? Was she just twisted, obsessed, h*rny? This is never thoroughly explained. I understand that we are dealing with fiction but really, who would decide to spy 24/7 on a 20-year-old kid who committed a malicious crime, all for the sake of his psychological evaluation? Maybe if we had a more detailed background of Ana's emotions, thoughts & feelings, this would have been much clearer. I cannot simply associate this with her weird obsession and sexual fantasies regarding Sergio, it lacks some depth of analysis.

Also, the show displayed mental illness in the most superficial and poor way. It does not let us dive deep into Sergio's emotional world and we only get to see that he had an extremely high IQ and anger issues. Of course the kid was fed up by being treated like a subject of study by his own mother, this is crystal clear, but I feel like we do not have his solid psychological/social background that led to his outbursts in the first place. Also, why would you have him lie at the end only for Noa to tell us that he did murder them? Subtly building a narrative (or sensation) of innocence and then deconstructing it was realistic but definitely off-putting.

I did like the cinematography, though, the scenery was mesmerizing. Aron Piper's acting was great as well, especially in the last episode. Other than that, it is just a past-time Netflix series. Not terrible, but there's certainly much more to appreciate from Spanish series.
